Details

Now in its fourth year, one of Britain’s great literary prizes involves all sorts of allusions and connections. The Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch are the generous donors of the award which continues the family’s tradition of supporting Walter Scott and now his literary heirs. Harmony House welcomed Scott on several occasions and today thousands of audience members come to the book festival in its garden to celebrate the work of writers from all over the world. Scott would have smiled at the kindness of his Buccleuch kinsmen and at the enthusiasm of fellow Borderers for great writing. This year’s shortlisted authors are: Pat Barker – Toby’s Room Thomas Keneally – The Daughters of Mars Hilary Mantel – Bring Up The Bodies Anthony Quinn – The Streets Tan Twan Eng – The Garden of Evening Mists Rose Tremain – Merivel Join us to celebrate Historical Fiction at it’s best!
